Documents for BAAL AGM, 30 August 2019

Agenda for AGM 2019

The Annual General Meeting will be held on Friday 30th August at 5-6pm at Manchester Metropolitan University as part of the annual conference. The meeting will be followed by the conference dinner at 6:30pm. Click here to access the draft agenda and officers’ reports for this meeting.

Minutes for AGM 2018

The draft minutes for the AGM in September 2018 are also available here. Members who plan to attend the AGM can read these in advance of the meeting, where the minutes will be confirmed.

2019 EC elections

There will be three ordinary member posts coming up for election in August. Four officer posts will also become available:

▪ Meetings Secretary

▪ Membership Secretary

▪ Seminars Co-ordinator

▪ Website Editor

Descriptions of the posts can be found here

Nominations for candidates to stand for election to the above posts will be accepted until midday on Friday 31st August, the day of the AGM at Manchester Metropolitan, and the election (if more than one candidate stands) will take place at the AGM. For this, candidates will need to prepare a short statement giving a brief biography and highlighting the contribution they could make to the BAAL committee. If you are interested in putting yourself forward for these posts and cannot attend the conference, please contact Caroline Tagg (caroline.tagg@open.ac.uk), BAAL Secretary.

Membership of the Executive Committee offers an opportunity to contribute directly to BAAL policy, initiatives, and activity, and to the promotion and representation of applied linguistics at a national (and often international) level. Executive Committee members are expected to attend three EC meetings per year, and reasonable expenses for attendance at these are covered by BAAL.

We encourage all BAAL members to consider standing for an Executive Committee post, and welcome nominations from people with a diversity of backgrounds, including new and more established academics.
