<p class="p1"><span class="s2">BAAL 2016 – Call for Papers on the theme of</span></p>
<p class="p3"><span class="s2">Taking stock of Applied Linguistics – Where are we now?</span></p>
<p class="p3"><span class="s2">Presenters at 49th BAAL Annual Meeting held at Anglia Ruskin University are invited to submit papers for the forthcoming edited volume on the above theme. The collection will be edited by Bettina Beinhoff and Sebastian Rasinger, and will be published online through ARRO (Anglia Ruskin Research Online) in association with BAAL. The text of individual papers should not exceed 5,000 words (excluding references). The closing date for submission is Monday 30 January 2016. Please note that authors will be asked to sign over the copyright to their contributions.</span></p>

<p class="p1"><span class="s1">Conference theme: Diversity in Applied Linguistics: Opportunities, Challenges, Questions</span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">2017 is the 50th anniversary of the first annual meeting of BAAL. The theme of the conference – Diversity and Applied Linguistics – will enable us to engage with the notion of diversity both of and in Applied Linguistics, in a diversifying world, in this anniversary year. What opportunities are enabled? What challenges are presented? What are the key questions for the field, as we take stock and look forward?</span></p>

<p class="p1"><span class="s1">BAAL offers scholarships at every annual conference. The scholarships are open to students and early career researchers, with the latter defined as being within 2 years of PhD completion. In addition, BAAL also offers one Chris Brumfit student/early career scholarship which is usually targeted at delegates from outside Britain who would not otherwise have funds to do so to attend the BAAL Annual Meeting. Candidates wishing to apply for either scholarship should submit an abstract in the usual way, indicating clearly on their submission that they wish to be considered for a scholarship. For more information on the scholarships and the selection process please refer to the conference website.</span></p>
<p class="p1"><strong><span class="s1">Prizes</span></strong></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">Poster prize &#8211; A prize will be given to the best poster presented at the conference. The local organising committee will select poster prize judges from the plenary speakers and leaders of invited colloquia. The winner receives £50.</span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1"> </span><span class="s1">The Richard Pemberton best postgraduate paper prize &#8211; The postgraduate development and liaison co-ordinator together with an ordinary member of the BAAL Executive Committee will draw up a shortlist and co-ordinate judges for the Richard Pemberton best postgraduate paper prize. The winner receives £50.</span></p>
