Cork is the second largest city in the Republic of Ireland, situated on a fine natural harbour on the south coast. The city was given its charter in 1185, and has been home to the University since 1845. There is a train station with regular trains to and from Dublin, also Limerick. www.irishrail.ie  Buses also run directly from Dublin to Cork - this is by far the cheapest way to get to Cork from Dublin. www.aircoach.ie  and www.buseireann.ie
